Retinal implant seems to work! New trials coming up

Optobionics first began human clinical trials in 2000, to test the safety of its retinal implant called the Artificial Silicon retina ASR. Now new human trials are scheduled to begin, this time with the aim to verify the implant’s effectiveness!

All patients enrolled in the trial who received the ASR reported vision improvement. Patients enrolled in the upcoming trials will be followed for at least 2 years. This is really exciting news. For the first time we learn that the Optobionics implant is really capable of improving sight. Of course we cannot know if it will work on all patients with LCA, but this is very encouraging.
