This is all too exciting. Dr. Koenekoop and the same international research team that discovered CEP290 has just identified a new gene causing LCA, called LCA5. Its role in the retina seems to be similar to that of CEP290, causing ciliary disfunction in the photoreceptors. This discovery was just announced! Dr. Koenekoop thinks that clinical trials for both CEP290 and LCA5 might be launched in the near future.
